My Backyard

My backyard is filled with furry creatures small and large. Today, I spotted a a family of deer and a small bunny. Although I could not get too close to the creatures before I scared them away, I could get a few shots. My favorite was of the bunny running away.

Tripp

Tripp and I went to high school together, but it was not until this summer that we met through a mutual friend. When he told me he needed a head shot taken, I jumped at the opportunity to practice taking portraits. Tripp was a good model, but his height required me to be creative in how I would take the shots.
The pictures were taken at his home in Loveland. We used the backyard and his dining room as backdrops. He also loves to play pool, so I thought it would be fun to shoot by the pool table. Here are a few pictures taken from that day.

Munchkin

My niece came over today. Isabelle is (recently) four years old. She has a vivid imagination and likes to make funny faces. Today, we had fun taking pictures together, dressing up, and running through the sprinkler.

A new website that has become very popular amongst procrastinators is called Stumbleupon. Recently, I "stumbled upon" a website of different techniques used in photoshop. I took a few minutes today to read up on tutorials of how to create different affects on my photos. I didn't follow the tutorials closely; rather, I used them to learn about a few tools that I have not yet used on the photoshop cs3 program.

I like the effects that I produced, but in the future hope to shoot photos with the intent on using the effects to their fullest capacity and impact.

Photographs: The first four photos were taken with my nikon d60. Mike's photo was edited with a cross process. Ali's portrait was edited with high contrast, vinetting, and color changing to make it appear older. Jen's photo was edited with a lot of blurring and gradient to make the light more vibrant. Sarah's photo was edited for soft focus and high contrast.

The last photograph was taken by Luke Potter, a very popular photographer in Athens, OH. I wanted to add a color, light, and pattern affect to this photograph. Make sure to check out his blog!

Cincinnati Conservatory

Over spring break I visited the conservatory in downtown Cincinnati. Although I had been there before, I enjoyed the experience more when I had my camera with me. The following pictures are a few shots that I took while on my short visit. I particularly like the image of the bonsai tree.

Time Lapse

I was taking a late evening nap when I woke up to an amazing rain storm. When it started to lightening and thunder, I decided I would try something new with my camera.
I wanted to use the light from the storm to illuminate images.

Unfortunately, none of my roommates were around, so I was the subject of my own photographs. However, I had a lot of fun experimenting. My goal is to be able to shoot in a heat lightening storm when there is no rain so that I can capture the lightening strikes.


Photographs: I put my camera on a very low shutter speed and on a tripod, with about a 50 second exposure.

I took several shots like the following:

If you look closely in the next shot, you can see two faces: As the storm died down and the lightening wasn't as bright, I moved my camera to the hallway next to my bathroom. I used the light from underneath my bathroom door to illuminate these following two images. I realize these are extremely cliche, but I like the fact that I was able to capture two images at once in the first time and what a streak of light in the second:
